Jan Kahmann

Jan Kahmann (born May 14, 1947 in Gelnhausen ) is a German trade unionist . He was a member of the executive board of the public services, transport and traffic union (ÖTV) and was a member of the federal board of the United Services Union (ver.di) from 2001 to 2007 .

Life & career

After graduating from school, Kahmann trained to be a sailor in merchant shipping . He practiced this profession until 1972. From 1972 to 1975 he attended the Nautical College . He completed his studies with the patent of the captain on a long voyage. Until 1977 he worked again as a helmsman in the merchant shipping, most recently as second nautical officer .

He is married and has two children.

Union functions

Kahmann has been a full-time trade unionist since 1977. From 1978 to 1983 he was secretary for the area of ​​maritime shipping in the ÖTV district administration Hamburg and at the ÖTV head office in Stuttgart . In 1983 he moved to the ÖTV district administration Weser-Ems with the work area transport and traffic as well as supply and disposal. In 1987 he became deputy chairman of the ÖTV district Weser-Ems. From 1996 to 2000 he was district chairman there. In 2000 he was elected to the executive board of the ÖTV, responsible for the areas of transport and special services and temporarily also for the personnel area and energy area. With the establishment of the United Service Union, he was elected to its federal executive committee. He headed the Federal Department of Transport (FB 11). At the federal congress in Berlin in October 2003, he was confirmed in his office with 85.6 percent of the delegate's votes. He was no longer a candidate for the 2007 Federal Congress.

Until 2008, Kahmann was Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the TUI Group and the Eurogate Group.
