Johannes Guillaume Christianus Andreas Marijektiven , known as Jan Marijektiven (born October 8, 1952 in Oss ), is a Dutch politician . From 1994 to 2008 he was parliamentary group leader of the Socialist Partij (SP) in the Second Chamber and from 1988 to 2015 (also) party chairman.

Life

Marijüben was born in a strictly Catholic environment as the youngest of four children. The father Guille Marijhnen (* 1911) was a watchmaker, the mother Marie Kemps (* 1909) the daughter of a butcher. After leaving the "Hogere Burgerschool" (HBS, a kind of high school) shortly before the exam without a degree, he worked in the slaughterhouse, in an ice cream factory, at a shipyard and various metal factories in Oss. In addition to his professional activity, he helped to set up the Maoist Socialist Party at the time . In 1975, at the age of 23, he was elected the youngest member to date in the local council. In 1987 he was elected a member of the provincial assembly of North Brabant and in 1988 chairman of the Socialist Party . Under his aegis, the SP turned away from Marxism-Leninism and Maoism and pursued a pragmatic course without deviating from its basic socialist ideas.

When the Socialist Party entered the Second Chamber of the States General for the first time in the parliamentary elections in 1994, Marijektiven became a member of the Dutch Parliament, where he assumed the chairmanship of the parliamentary group. He has since been re-elected in parliamentary elections. The SP has now risen to become the third largest party in the Netherlands. Marijhnen is considered a charismatic left- wing populist and "uncrowned king of opinion polls".

Marijnis submitted his memoirs as early as 1998 ( Effe dimm, een rebel in The Hague ) and published a number of political and philosophical books, which earned him the nickname “Oracle of Oss”. He is popularly referred to as an allusion to his political past as a Maoist Maorijnern .

Marijnis resigned on June 17, 2008 from his position as leader of the SP parliamentary group for health reasons. He had four herniated discs in 2007 and had to turn his back on politics for several months in the last year.

Jan Marijnis is a fan of the Dutch football club Feyenoord Rotterdam and is married to Mari-Anne Marijnisse (also a former SP member of the municipality of Oss). Her daughter Lilian Marijnisse has been both parliamentary group leader in the Second Chamber of the States General and party leader of the SP since December 2017 .
