Jan Rychlík

Jan Rychlík (born April 27, 1916 in Prague ; † January 20, 1964 there ) was a Czech composer.

Life

Rychlík attended business school in Prague from 1933 to 1939. He then studied with Jaroslav Řídký at the conservatory until 1946 . During his studies he worked as an entertainment and jazz musician. Besides Jiří Kolář , he belonged to a circle of writers and artists and emerged as the author of his own literary texts and translator of the poems of Christian Morgenstern .

After the war he became known as a film music composer and the most important representative of Czech new music. In 1961 he was one of the founders of the ensemble for contemporary music Musica viva pragensis .
