Jan Schroeder

Jan Schroeder (born October 12, 1942 in Solingen ; † February 16, 2019 ) was a German horn player and university professor .

Life

He received his first lessons on the horn from his father Willy Schroeder; later lessons with Heinrich Keller at the Hamburg University of Music and follow-up studies with Domenico Ceccarossi in Rome.

Schroeder was first horn player in the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra from 1964 to 1967, at the Hamburg State Opera from 1967 to 1972 and in the Hamburg NDR Symphony Orchestra from 1972 to 1982 . He was also section leader of the horns and Wagner tubas in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra for twenty years .

From 1970 to 1986 he was a lecturer for horn and chamber music at the Lübeck University of Music . In 1981 he was appointed professor and taught as such at the HMT-Hanover from 1982 .

In 1971 he won a prize at the international horn competition in Geneva. This was followed by international jury and master class activities. He had been a member of the Consortium Classicum since 1971 . He was also a member of "ProFive-Süddeutsche Bläsersolisten".

He was considered one of the leading horn players in historical natural horn playing and an internationally sought-after soloist, chamber musician and horn mentor. His solo horn playing is documented in various radio productions and on more than 60 recordings, including EMI, DG, Novalis, ambitus, animato, Orfeo, M-DG and cpo.

Schroeder died on February 16, 2019.
