Jan St. Werner

Jan St. Werner (* 1969 in Nuremberg ) is a German musician and label owner and professor. He was best known as a member of the Mouse on Mars and Microstoria projects . He also publishes solo under pseudonyms such as Lithops , Noisemashinetapes or Neuter River .

life and work

Werner has been publishing electronic music since the early 1990s . In 1993 he founded the duo Mouse on Mars with Andi Toma . In 1995 Werner founded the Microstoria project together with Markus Popp ( Oval ) . From 1996 onwards Werner's solo publications appeared again under the name Lithops . Later appeared publications under his real name and as Neuter River .

Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner founded the label sonig in 1997 together with the Cologne author and musician Frank Dommert .

From 2004 to 2006 Werner was artistic director of the Steim , a center for research and development of new instruments for electronic music and media art.

In 2007 Werner and Toma released the album "Tromatic Reflexxions" together with Mark E. Smith from The Fall under the band name Von Südfed .

In 2012 Werner founded the Black Manual project together with percussionists Valdir Jovendal, Juninho Quebradeira and Leo Leandro , whose music is a mixture of Afro-Brazilian and electronic sounds. The project's debut album was released in 2013 on Brigade Commerz under the title “Mordendo” .

Werner also produces music for installation art and multimedia projects.

Jan St. Werner lives in Berlin and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg.
