Career

Jan Thoelke started his racing career in formula racing. From 1980 to 1984 he drove in the German Formula 3 Championship . His best season result in this racing series was tenth in 1983 with a March 813 . In 1983 he started in a race in the European Formula 3 Championship - but could not place in the points.

In 1984 he competed for the Gebhardt Motorsport team in several races in the sports car world championship . Only in the 1000 km race in Spa-Francorchamps was he able to finish the race in 14th place together with George Schwarz and Frank Jelinski in a Gebhardt JC842 . The other races had to be abandoned prematurely due to technical defects in the racing car. That year he drove a Maurer MM83 racing car in the Interseries at the Nürburgring , which he finished with second place in the 2nd division.

In the following year he started for Gebhardt Motorsport in two races of the IMSA GTP series . He finished the 3-hour race in Miami with Frank Jelinski in 20th place. At the 12-hour race in Sebring , the team had to stop the race prematurely due to an accident. In Europe he started with a Gebhardt GCA in the 2nd division and later with a Zakspeed C1 / 8 in the 1st division of the Interseries. At the end of the season he finished 13th. Since the German racing championship in 1985 mainly consisted of races from the Interseries, Thoelke was able to place himself in ninth place in DRM.

From 1986 he only took part in a few races. At the Supercup race in Hockenheim in 1986, he finished ninth with a Zakspeed C1 / 8. At the Supercup race in Nuremberg in the same year, he retired with an engine failure. In the USA he contested a race with a March 86A in the American Racing Series and finished 28th at the end of the season.

In 1987 he drove a BMW M3 , a race of the World Touring Car Championship at the Nurburgring that he, Thomas Löwis of Monar and Leopold of Bavaria were not able to finish. From 1987 to 1989 he drove the 3-hour race in Miami in the IMSA Lights class, which he only finished in 20th place in 1988 with Gary Robinson in a Gebhardt JC853 . In the other races he retired early.

In 1989 he ended his motorsport career. Since 2000 he has been the owner and managing director of a media company.
