Jan van Kilsdonk
Jan van Kilsdonk SJ (born March 19, 1917 in Zeeland , North Brabant , † July 1, 2008 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch Jesuit and student pastor .
He joined the Jesuit order in Grave in 1934 and was ordained a priest on August 22, 1945. He was the pastor of political prisoners in Camp Vught, a former concentration camp in the Netherlands. From 1946 to 1960 he taught religion at St. Ignatius College in Amsterdam. From 1960 to 1972 he was pastor of the student association Sanctus Thomas Aquinas . From 1961 to 1982 he was also a chaplain.
He was the focus of public society and the Roman Curia because of his views on homosexuality and AIDS. He was also known since the 1960s for his attitude towards contraception, the virgin birth of Jesus and the right to loyal criticism in the church.
Van Kilsdonk exercised his pastorate until his death, with conversations and also by writing, often very long, personal letters.
More than two thousand people attended the funeral service, including Mayor Job Cohen of Amsterdam and Former Bishop Philippe Bär of Rotterdam .
He was knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau , recipient of the silver medal of Amsterdam and recipient of the Bob Angelo Penning award (to the merit of homosexual emancipation).
