Jane Aceng

Jane Ruth Aceng (born May 11, 1968 ) is a Ugandan doctor and politician of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who has been Minister of Health since 2016.

Life

After attending the Shimoni Demonstration School and the Nabisunsa Girls School in 1987, Jane Aceng began studying medicine at Makerere University , which she completed in 1993 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBchB). She then worked as a doctor at Lira Hospital between 1994 and 2000 . At this time she was acting medical director from 1998 to 2000 and medical director between 2000 and 2003 and also acted as senior physician at Mulago Hospital . During this time she completed postgraduate studies in pediatrics at Makerere University, completing this in 2003 with a Master of Medicine in Pediatrics . Between 2003 and 2007 she was medical superintendent and chief physician for pediatrics at the Lira Regional Referral Hospital and during this time completed another postgraduate course in public health at Makerere University, which she obtained in 2006 with a Master of Public Health (MPH) completed. She was then a pediatrician at the Lira Regional Referral Hospital from 2007 to 2016, where she was first Medical Superintendent between 2007 and 2010 and, most recently, Acting Medical Director from 2010 to 2015. In 2011 she also obtained a diploma in public administration and management from Multitech Business School .

In 2016, Jane Aceng became Minister of Health in Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda's cabinet .
