Jane Beß

Jane Beß , also Jane Bess , (born November 28, 1894 , † after 1937) was a German screenwriter .

Life

According to her own statements, she attended university and graduated with a dissertation, which, however, has not been proven. According to her, she had been working in film since 1912. Her name appeared as a screenwriter from 1919.

Jane Beß turned out to be an extremely productive silent film writer. She mainly wrote the material for crime and adventure films , as well as melodramas and comedies . According to her own account, she wrote the scripts for 128 films by 1926. However, only a good half of these are detectable. Beß delivered her scripts to various film companies and also worked as a dramaturge for one of them, Ima-Film. In this role, she worked on the submitted ideas.

Jane Beß had been married to the director of Ima-Film Alfons Fruchter since November 28, 1921 and had had a daughter since the mid-1920s. After the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933, she emigrated to the Netherlands. There she wrote her last screenplay in 1935. In 1937 her name reappeared in the Berlin address book with the occupation "Writer". Nothing is known about her further life.
