Jane Bonham Carter, Baroness Bonham-Carter of Yarnbury (born October 20, 1957 ) is a British politician of the Liberal Democrats .

Life

Bonham Carter attended St. Paul's Girls' School , an independent school in Brook Green , London , and studied at University College London , a college of the University of London .

From 1996 to 1998 she was press spokeswoman for the Liberal Democrats . From 1998 to 2006 she was a member of the Liberal Democrats Campaigns and Communications Committee .

She worked in television before being named Baroness Bonham-Carter of Yarnbury , of Yarnbury in the County of Wiltshire , in 2004 as a life peer .

Bonham Carter was criticized when it became known that she and her significant other , Tim Razzall was shared an apartment, but both each reimbursement from the House of Lords argued. However, neither of them violated statutory regulations.

Since 2004 she has been spokeswoman for the Liberal Democrats for Culture, Media and Sport (Broadcasting and the Arts). From 2005 to 2007 she was a member of Sub-Committee F (Home Affairs) of the European Union .

family

She comes from a political family. Her great grandfather was Herbert Henry Asquith , the former Prime Minister, and her grandparents were Sir Maurice Bonham Carter and Violet Bonham Carter, Baroness Asquith of Yarnbury . Her father, Mark Bonham Carter, Baron Bonham-Carter, was a House of Commons MP for the Liberals and Life Peer for the Liberal Democrats . Her aunt Laura Bonham Carter was married to Joseph Grimond, Baron Grimond , a former chairman of the party.

This is the only example of three generations being made Life Peers under the Life Peerages Act 1958 .

She is a cousin of actress Helena Bonham Carter .
