Janet Hubert

Janet Louise Hubert (born January 13, 1956 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actress , best known for her role as Vivian Banks in the first three seasons of the sitcom The Prince of Bel-Air .

Life

Hubert was born in Chicago, where she grew up on the South Side. At the age of nine, Hubert moved her family to rural Chicago. She later won a scholarship to the Juilliard School in New York. She broke off her studies.

In 1981 she starred in the play Cats on Broadway . Her biggest role was as Vivan Banks on NBC sitcom The Prince of Bel-Air . Hubert played there from 1990 to 1993 the caring aunt of Will Smith. There was an argument between her and the leading actor Will Smith, whereupon Hubert was fired from the series and replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid . Another reason was her pregnancy, with which Hubert committed a breach of contract with NBC.

Since then she has only had guest roles on other series such as Friends and Gilmore Girls . 2013 she spoke in the video game GTA V the figure Denise Clinton . Since 2018 Hubert can be seen in the soap opera General Hospital . Her work includes around 40 film and television productions.

Hubert was married to James Whitten from 1990 to 1994. She has a son with him. During the marriage she was named Janet Hubert-Whitten .
