Janice Atkinson

Janice Ann Atkinson (* 31 August 1962 in London as Janice Small ) is a British politician . She moved into the European Parliament in 2014 for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) .

Life and family

Atkinson grew up as the daughter of a miner and a cleaning lady. While the father was a socialist, the mother was a supporter of the Tories . According to Atkinson, he attended a grammar school , and there is evidence that he attended the Blackheath Bluecoat Church of England School . In her 20s she started working as a freelancer. She was the owner of a small marketing consultancy and worked for clients in various industries.

Their first marriage had two sons. She is now married for the second time. Her husband brought two other children into the marriage.

Atkinson claims to be committed to Margaret Thatcher in her youth .

During the Conservative Party's 2005 election campaign , she was its press spokeswoman in the south-east region. In the constituency of Batley and Spen , she ran in the British general election in 2010 for a seat, but lost to Mike Wood .

Atkinson has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 . There she is a deputy member of the committee for civil liberties, justice and home affairs . Within her party she was controversial for making a sensational, insulting statement against a voter of Thai descent.

In March 2015, Atkinson was expelled from UKIP after asking a restaurant for a receipt for an amount that was far too high after an Alliance for Direct Democracy in Europe event . She joined the Europe of Nations and Freedom Group in June 2015 , where she is Vice-Chair.
