The Alliance for Direct Democracy in Europe (ADDE, German: Alliance for Direct Democracy in Europe, French: Alliance pour la Démocratie Directe en Europe ) was a political party at the European level . It was founded on September 30, 2014 from the ranks of the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group in the European Parliament and, like them, was mainly dominated by the British UK Independence Party . The party went bankrupt in April 2017 and was dissolved on May 24, 2017.

With the Institute for Direct Democracy in Europe (IDDE, originally Initiative for Direct Democracy) there was a party- affiliated foundation of the ADDE. The IDDE was led by Laure Ferrari ( DLF , France).

history

founding

The founding of the party was controversial within UKIP. In 2009 the party base had spoken out against participation in a European party. Only MEP Godfrey Bloom took part in a European party, the European Alliance for Freedom , of which he was also chairman.

After the founding, not all European parliamentarians of UKIP joined the ADDE. In mid-2015, 19 of the then 22 UKIP MPs belonged to the ADDE. For the first time in 2015, the party received around 1.24 million euros in party funding from the European Parliament. In addition there was € 730,000 for the IDDE Foundation.

Financial irregularities and dissolution

At the end of 2016, the European Parliament found that ADDE and UKIP had misused more than half a million euros in party funding for national party politics. In addition, the IDDE did not raise the necessary own funds through donations etc. The advance payment for party funding of ADDE in 2017 was reduced from 80% to 40%.

Several UKIP MPs left the ADDE, partly because they left UKIP after internal disputes over the successor to Nigel Farage , partly because they switched to the European Alliance for Freedom  , partly for reasons unknown. At the beginning of 2017, eight of the then 20 MEPs were still members of the ADDE.

At the end of March 2017, General Secretary Yasmine Dehaene ( Parti Populaire ) left ADDE. In an email that became public, she accused UKIP of failing to pay various ADDE bills as promised. Among other things, it was lawyers' bills and rent payments. In addition, Dehaene himself and the treasurer Willem Toutenhoofd did not receive any expense allowance for three months.

ADDE became insolvent in April 2017 . The ADDE dissolved with effect from May 24, 2017.

In November 2017, the Belgian public prosecutor's office searched the offices of the Belgian member party Parti Populaire , alleging that ADDE funds had been misused for them.
