Now the people , French: Maintenant le Peuple , in German roughly: Jetzt das Volk, was an alliance of six left or left-wing populist parties and movements that ran for the 2019 European elections. It was founded by Jean-Luc Mélenchon of the French movement La France insoumise . Together with Pablo Iglesias Turrión ( Podemos ) and Catarina Martins ( Bloco de Esquerda ), Mélenchon published the Lisbon Declaration in April 2018 . In this they called for a "democratic revolution in Europe" and the withdrawal from the EU treaties. The alliance was founded in June 2018 with the addition of three Scandinavian parties.

European elections 2019

In the 2019 European elections, La France insoumise was able to maintain the result of the Front de gauche , although the Parti communiste français - which was part of the FdG in 2014 - had competed separately. In Spain, Unidos Podemos - the electoral alliance of Podemos and the European Left member Izquierda Unida - was able to gain a seat. The Bloco de Esquerda was able to more than double its share of the vote and thus received a second mandate. The Enhedslisten entered the European Parliament for the first time when they ran for the first time, while the Folkebevægelsen mod EU , which had previously supported the Enhedslisten, cannot have a member for the first time. The Finnish left-wing alliance lost slightly, but was able to keep its mandate. The Vänsterpartiet gained slightly and was thus able to defend its mandate.

The 14 MEPs of the Alliance joined the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left .
