VoorNederland ( VNL , German  for the Netherlands ) was a Dutch political party and split off from the right-wing populist Party for Freedom (PVV) .

The party saw itself as classically liberal to liberal-conservative and was critical of the EU .

history

founding

The party was founded by Louis Bontes and Joram van Klaveren , both of whom were elected to the Second Chamber of the States General for the PVV in 2010 . Bontes was expelled from the PVV in October 2013, van Klaveren left the PVV in March 2014 after controversial statements by PVV boss Geert Wilders about the Moroccan minority in the Netherlands. In April 2014 the two MPs formed the group Bontes / Van Klaveren and in May 2014 the founding of the new VoorNederland party was announced.

Further course

In December 2014, former PVV MEP Laurence Stassen joined the VNL. She later took over the party chairmanship. In January 2015, the Article 50 party dissolved in favor of the VNL.

At the beginning of 2016, the VNL was awarded party funding because it exceeded the necessary threshold of 1,000 members. The VNL will receive € 250,000 for 2016. It should actually share this with the PVV, from which it has split off. Since the PVV formally only has one member with Gert Wilders and therefore does not receive any party funding, the entire amount goes to the VNL. In comparison, the Denk party, which has split off from the PvdA and also has two parliamentarians, only receives € 15,000.

General election 2017

In April 2015, the well-known lawyer Bram Moszkowicz was presented as the future top candidate for the 2017 parliamentary election . In January 2016, however, the party decided against Moszkowicz. Some polls in July 2015 and since September 2016 gave the VNL a chance of one or two seats in the election. In August 2016, it was announced that Jan Roos, co-initiator of the referendum on the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine , would be the new lead candidate. In the 2017 parliamentary election , VNL received 0.4% of the vote - too few for a seat in the Second Chamber.

As a result, the party decided to dissolve.

International cooperation

The VNL worked with the UK Independence Party (UKIP) from November 2014 until the end of 2016 . Van Klaveren was a member of the UKIP-led European party Alliance for Direct Democracy in Europe . Bontes was treasurer of the associated European party foundation Initiative for Direct Democracy in Europe (IDDE).

Apron organizations

The party's think tank was named Adam Smith Instituut after the Scottish moral philosopher Adam Smith . The youth organization was called JongVNL .
