The broken pipe trench is a right over 3 km long inlet of the Schunter east of the Braunschweig district of Querum at the height of the Borwall . Its source area is the Im Klei forest east of Waggum on Hondelager area.

geography

The headwaters of the burst pipe trench is an extensive forest area east of Waggum, which had to give way to the expansion of the Braunschweig-Wolfsburg airport in the southwest . The source location is taken from the water quality report for the city drainage of Braunschweig from 2010. On the official maps, the watercourse is continued upstream to the forest area Mehlkamp , but no name is given for this. The headwaters belong to the Hondelages corridor.

The ditch winds through the forest to the south and then runs in largely straight, but partially renatured sections in alternating directions through the Sickbruch , where it crosses under the Tief Straße to Hondelage and is later bridged by the Federal Motorway 2 . South of the autobahn, it passes the Am Peterskamp industrial park and flows through the Tannenriede forest in the Querumer Forest. To the south of the Peterskamps crossing, the ditch runs relatively incised in the partially enclosed bank until it reaches the shallow floodplain of the Schunter. There it flows through the reed beds - true to its name - and flows into the Schunter opposite the Borwall from the north.

Water quality

The water structure quality was examined in 2010 by the Institute for Geoecology of the TU Braunschweig on behalf of the city drainage system Braunschweig for the 3454 meter long stream. The near-natural areas in the floodplain and in the forest area are rated just as positively as the sections that have already been renatured.
