Janice Nadeau

Janice Nadeau (born December 31, 1977 in Gatineau , Quebec , Canada ) is a Canadian illustrator, artistic director and animation filmmaker.

Life

Janice Nadeau studied graphic design at the Université du Québec à Montréal and illustration at the École supérieure des arts décoratifs in Strasbourg . In 2005 she was responsible for the illustration of the Corteo program on the international tour of Cirque du Soleil . She has illustrated a number of books and has won three Governor General's Awards , the most prestigious Canadian literary prize, in the illustration category. She received the award for her works No fish where to go (Les 400 coups, 2003), Ma meilleure amie (Québec Amérique, 2007) and Harvey (la Pastèque, 2009). In 2014, she co-directed the animation film adaptation of No fish where to go as a short film by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). The film won the International Film Critics ' Prize ( FIPRESCI Prize ) at the Annecy International Festival of Animated Film , where it had its world premiere in June 2014.

Another work is her animated short film Mamie , which she wrote and directed for the French production company Folimage in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada.

Nadeau teaches illustration at the School of Design at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She has been a PhD student in film studies at the University of Montréal since 2018. The topic of the doctoral thesis is "The processes of creative appropriation in animation film: Expression and experimentation with graphic and digital techniques and technologies".

Nadeau received various awards:

  • 2013 : Animation director in residence at Fontevrault Abbey
  • 2013 : Folimage Prize for Mamie at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival .
  • 2012 : Sprint for you Script! - SODEC / SARTEC Prize for Mamie .
  • 2005, 2007, 2011 : The White Ravens, Germany.
  • 2004, 2007, 2010 : Applied Arts Awards Annual.
  • 2004, 2008, 2009 : Governor General's Award.
  • 2004, 2008, 2009 : LUX Award for the best illustration “Best Illustration”.
  • 2004 : Marcel Couture Award, Montreal Book Fair
