Janjeva ( Albanian also Janjevë , Serbian Јањево Janjevo ) is a town in eastern Kosovo . Janjeva is located about ten kilometers southeast of the capital Pristina and belongs to the municipality of Lipjan .

The first written mention comes from Pope Benedict XII. from 1303, in it Janjeva is mentioned as the center of the Catholic parish of St. Nicholas.

Today, Janjeva is mainly inhabited by Albanians , although Janjeva was a Croatian stronghold in Kosovo for a long time until 1992. The Janjevci , as the Croats from Janjeva were called, made Janjeva a well-known city in Kosovo and in parts of Croatia and Bosnia.

A census carried out in 2011 showed a population of 2137 for Janjeva. Of these, 1586 (74.22%) described themselves as Albanians , 188 (8.80%) as Roma or Ashkali , 118 (5.52%) as Turks , five as Bosniaks and one as a Serb . 234 people (10.95%) stated a different ethnic affiliation (“Croatian” was not an option with regard to the ethnic group).
