Janko Röttgers
Janko Röttgers (* 1976 ) is a German journalist and author . He lives and works in San Francisco .
In the 2000s he published on the topics of network culture , network politics and music on the Internet , among others in c't , de: Bug , Frankfurter Rundschau , Friday , heise online , Telepolis , netzwelt.de and in Tonspion . At that time he was living in Los Angeles.
His book "Mix, Burn & RIP", published in 2003, attracted particular attention, in which he prophesied the end of the music industry and its classic distribution channels. Röttgers predicted that content such as music would increasingly be consumed in digital form over the Internet (for example in legal download stores such as iTunes or Beatport , but also via file sharing ) in the following years .
After working as a correspondent for German-language media, he joined the US technology blog Gigaom. From 2015 to 2019, he wrote for Variety magazine on technology topics from San Francisco. At the end of 2019 he switched to the newly founded publication Protocol .
