The Japanese dwarf reed ( Hakonechloa macra ) is a species of the sweet grass family (Poaceae). It is the only species of the genus dwarf reed ( Hakonechloa ).
description
The Japanese dwarf reed is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 75 centimeters. The species forms underground runners. The leaf blades are lanceolate, 4 to 25 centimeters long, 5 to 15 millimeters wide and have a fine tip. The panicle is loose. The spikelets are 3 to 5 flowered and 1 to 2 inches long.
The flowering period lasts from August to October.
Occurrence
The Japanese dwarf reed occurs in central Japan on eastern Honshū on damp rocky cliffs in the mountain forest.
