William Munro (* 1818 in Druids Stoke , Gloucestershire , † January 29, 1880 in Taunton ) was a British officer and botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Munro ".

Live and act

William Munro (in addition to his military career in the English infantry) collected many plants in India between 1834 and 1838, in Kashmir in 1847, in the Crimea and in Barbados from 1870 to 1875. His special interest was tropical grasses and bamboo species.

Honors

The plant genera Munroa Torr were named Mach Munro . , Hemimunroa Parodi and Munrochloa M.Kumar & Remesh from the sweet grass family (Poaceae) and also Munronia Wight and Nurmonia Harms from the mahogany family (Meliaceae).
