The Japanese Embassy Montevideo ( Spanish Embajada del Japón en el Uruguay , Japanese 在 ウ ル グ ア イ 日本国 大使館 , Zai-Uruguai Nihon-koku taishikan ) is the diplomatic representation of Japan in Uruguay .

The embassy building is located in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo in the Parque Rodó district there, on Bulevar Artigas 953 . The embassy residence, on the other hand, is located in Barrio Carrasco . Kenichi Sakuma has been the ambassador since February 22, 2010 .

Foreign Relations

Bilateral relations between the two countries have existed since September 24, 1921. From this date, the Japanese ambassador to Argentina also took over the office in Uruguay. On May 10, 1940, a trade agreement between Japan and Uruguay was concluded for the first time. After diplomatic relations between the two countries broke off after the outbreak of World War II , they were resumed on December 2, 1952.
