Jaroslav Žák

Jaroslav Žák (born November 28, 1906 in Prague ; † August 29, 1960 there ) was a Czech teacher , writer and screenwriter .

After graduating from high school in 1925, he studied Romance studies and classical philology at Charles University in Prague . While he was working in school in various places in the Czech Republic and Slovakia , he began to write books together with his friend Vlastimil Rada as an illustrator in the 1930s , the most successful of which was in 1937 under the title “Študáci a kantoři” (for example: “Pennäler und Pauker ”) appeared and presented a humorous description of everyday school life. The book also appeared in a German edition, which, although placed on the " List of Unwanted Books " by the National Socialists , was sold on and enjoyed great popularity.

He dealt with the seizure of power in Czechoslovakia by the communists in 1948 in three novels, whereupon he was excluded from the writers' association and banned from publication.
