Jaroslav Beneš

Jaroslav Beneš (born April 6, 1892 in Prague ; † June 24, 1963 there ) was a Czech philosopher and theologian.

Life

Jaroslav Beneš attended high school on Vinohrady in Prague. This was followed by studies at Charles University from 1912 to 1915 and studies abroad from 1923 to 1924 in Rome . In 1925 Benes was promoted to Doctor of Philosophy and a year later to Doctor of Theology (Magister Aggregatus). In 1926 he took part in the World Tomists ' Congress together with Emilián Soukup , Silvestr Maria Braito , Metoděj Habáň and Reginald Dacík . In 1927 he began as a lecturer and in 1929 as professor of Christian theology at the theological faculty in Prague. After the war he becomes dean of the institute. In addition, he was Canon of All Saints' Day at Prague Castle and ran for the office of Archbishop.

Teaching

He devoted himself to studying the works of René Descartes and Thomas Aquinas . He dealt with the issues of truth and certainty, in which he saw the cause of some philosophical errors, but at the same time also the source of modern subjectivism , which endangered the further healthy development of philosophical progress. In his other works he opposes noetic idealism and sensism and calls for moderate realism.
