Jarra

Jarra (spelling: Diara ) was a small empire in what is now the West African state of Gambia , on the Gambia River .

history

It lay on the southern bank of the river and was bordered by the Kiang Empire to the west and the Niamina Empire to the east.

In the early 19th century Jarra was one of nine Mandinka empires on the southern bank of the Gambia. At the end of the 19th century it was united with Niamina up to the Sofaniama Bolong .

The districts of Jarra West , Jarra Central, and Jarra East in the Lower River Region make reference to this empire.
