Jarra Central is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of six districts in the Lower River Region .
According to a calculation from 2013 about 6511 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 2003 was 6494.
The name is derived from Jarra , a former small empire.

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at that time ), the Mandinka represented the largest population group with a share of around four-tenths, followed by the Fula and the Serahule. The distribution in detail: 38.2% Mandinka , 33% Fula , 0.3% Wolof , 0.4% Jola , 21.3% Serahule , 0.9% Serer , 0% Aku , 5.6% Manjago , 0 % Bambara and 0.3% other races.
