Jasmine (Japanese singer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jasmine (spelling: JASMINE) (born May 19, 1989 in Tokyo , Japan ) is the stage name of the Japanese J-Pop and R&B singer and is derived from her real first name Asumi ( Japanese あ す み ). She is under contract with Sony Music Japan and is also a DJ for Japanese radio broadcaster J-Wave .

Life

Jasmine gained her first experience at the age of 13 in the gospel choir at Yokota Air Base . She then went to an American choir, where at the age of 17 she decided to become a professional singer and began to create her own lyrics and pieces of music. She then signed her contract with Sony Music Japan.

Career

Jasmine released her first debut single Sad to Say on June 24th, 2009 in CD format. However, the song was already offered as a ringtone via Chaku-Uta Full and reached the highest position in the Chaku-Uta Full Charts . This made her the first female artist to debut at number 1 in these charts. Weeks after the CD was released, critics named it The Rebirth of Hikaru Utada and compared both artists. However, the single Sad to Say landed at number 13 on the Oricon charts in the first week , but was able to save itself at number 10 in the second week. To date, the single in CD format has sold more than 30,000 times in Japan and is her most successful single. Also in digital format, as it has been awarded platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan for more than 250,000 legal downloads .

On October 25th, 2009 Jasmine also made her stage debut, she was the guest of a concert by the American singer Ne-Yo in the Saitama Super Arena . This also served as an advertisement for their second single No More , which was released on October 28, 2009.

She then released another three singles This Is Not a Game , Jealous and Dreamin ' in 2010 . Of these, This Is Not a Game and Jealous were only available up to 10,000 limited editions each. On July 21, 2010, she released her debut album, which she called Gold . The album debuted at number 3 on the Oricon charts, stayed in the charts for nine weeks and sold up to 50,000 copies, making Gold Jasmine's most successful record.

It wasn't until February 2011 that she released her next single, One , then Only You in July and her single Best Partner on July 25, 2012 .
