Jason Wayne Standridge (born November 9, 1978 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American baseball player . The right-handed pitcher played in North American Major League Baseball from 2001 to 2007 , and in Japanese professional baseball since 2007 . In 2010 he played with the Hanshin Tigers in the Japanese Central League .

Standridge attended Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville , a suburb of Birmingham; in the 1997 MLB Draft he was selected in the first round by the Tampa Bay Rays , made his major league debut in 2001 and was used a total of nine times, mainly as a relief pitcher. In 2003 he threw seven games from the start, but scored no win and five losses. After the 2004 season, in which he only had four major league appearances, he became a free agent. In 2005, when he was initially signed by the Texas Rangers, but was then released in June 2005, he was used more frequently as a reliever by the Cincinnati Reds (2005: 31 innings in 32 games).

In 2006 Standridge came to the New York Mets through a waiver trade , but moved to the Kansas City Royals before the start of the 2007 season, who released him as a free agent in May. He signed a contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, who used him again as a first team starter for the first time since 2001. In 2008 he suffered a shoulder injury and his contract was terminated after just three poor appearances on the first team. After a short interlude in 2009 as a minor leaguer with the Florida Marlins , he was released in April. In 2010 he came to Japan for the second time through a ¥ 40 million contract with the Hanshin Tigers. In the 2010 season, in which the Tigers fought with the Dragons and the Giants for the title of the Central League, Standridge was one of the Tigers' best starters behind Yasutomo Kubo : In 23 appearances he posted 11 wins, 5 losses and an ERA of 3.49 .
