Javier Luciano Margas (born October 5, 1969 in Santiago de Chile ) is a former Chilean football player .

The defender was active in the Chilean national team for almost a decade . At club level he played in his home country as well as in Mexico and England .

career

In 1987 Javier Margas took part in the U-20 World Cup. His professional career began a year later at the age of 19 at CSD Colo-Colo in Chile's capital Santiago . With the Snow White , with whom he played until 1995, he won the Chilean championship five times and the Copa Libertadores in 1991, along with a few other titles .

From 1995 to 1996 Margas played at Club América in Mexico . After playing again for Colo-Colo and CD Universidad Católica until 1998 , he moved to the English first division club West Ham United . His first season with the Hammers was overshadowed by a knee injury and the too quick return to the team. But Marga's disappearance from London in February 1999 is better known . As it turned out later, he had traveled to his home country Chile.

In 2001, after three years at West Ham, Javier Margas ended his professional career.

In the Chilean national team , Margas played 63 international matches in the 1990s. In addition to several Copa América events, he took part in the 1998 World Cup in France .
