The Jbel Zerhoun near the town of Moulay Idris is about 15 km long and a maximum of 1118 m high, but is a mountain range that is known throughout the country because of the grave mosque of the Moroccan state founder Idris I on a 550 m high secondary peak. Geologically, it forms a southern appendage of the Rif Mountains and is rich in kaolin and feldspar deposits .

flora

The valleys of the Zerhoun massif are used intensively for agriculture; there are a large number of olive tree plantations , but grain is also grown. The higher slopes are covered with stone and cork oaks and other shrubs.

tourism

Because of the grave mosque of the founder of the state, venerated as 'holy' by many Moroccans, pilgrimage tourism plays a major role in the economic life of the region. In addition, there are many foreign tourists who make a short detour from the nearby Volubilis .
