Jean-Baptiste le Saive the Elder

Jean-Baptiste le Saive the Elder (also Jean le Saive , Jean de Namur le Jeune , Jan Baptiste le Saive , Jan Baptist le Saive ; * 1571 in Namur , † 1624 in Mechelen ) was a Flemish Baroque painter .

Le Saive was probably trained by his father, Jean le Saive . He married Marie Wyaerts (also Wiaertsen) in 1603; The three children Maximilien, Théodore and Jean-Baptiste emerged from this marriage . The paintings Le baptême du Christ ( The Baptism of Christ ) and the altarpiece Le combat de David et Goliath ( The battle of David and Goliath ) in the Saint-Rombaut Cathedral in Mechelen are attributed to him. His style was strongly influenced by Joachim Beuckelaer .
