Jean-Claude Piris

Jean-Claude Piris (born November 14, 1943 in Algiers ) is a French lawyer, diplomat and author. Piris was Director General of the Legal Service of the European Council of the EU .

Life

Piris studied public law at the University of Paris and graduated from the Institut d'études politiques in Bordeaux . From 1979 to 1983 he worked in the diplomatic service in New York .

In 2004 he worked as a consultant in the creation of the Treaty for a Constitution of Europe , in 2007 he was involved in the negotiation of the Lisbon Treaty . From 1988 to 2010 he served as legal advisor to the European Council and the Council of the European Union .
