Jean-François Chevrier (* 1954 in Lyon , France) is a French art historian, art critic and freelance exhibition maker . He is a professor at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts (ENSBA) in Paris .

Life

Jean-François Chevrier graduated from the École normal supérieure with a doctorate in 1974 and is also Agrégé de lettres . Between 1985 and 1995 he taught the history of photography at the Université Paris X Nanterre. Since 1988 he has been teaching the history of contemporary art at ENSBA. His research interests are broad and range from photography to architecture, as well as from artists such as Jeff Wall to Sigmar Polke .

In 1982, Chevrier founded Photographies magazine and also ran it as editor-in-chief until the end of 1985. In addition to curating numerous international exhibitions, he and Catherine David were the main advisor to Documenta X in Kassel in 1997 . He made contributions to several exhibition catalogs , including click - doubleclick (2006) and Cézanne and Beyond (2009). Most recently he curated the exhibition Formes biographiques, Construction et mythologie individuelle at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid in 2013/2014 .
