Jean-Laurent Bonnafé

Jean-Laurent Bonnafé (born July 14, 1961 in Clichy ) is a French bank manager . Since 2011 he has been General Manager (Administrateur Directeur Général) at the head of the major bank BNP Paribas .

Life

Bonnafé was born in Clichy-la-Garenne in what is now the Hauts-de-Seine department as the son of the engineer Jean-Armand Bonnafé and the lawyer Danièle Bonnafé. Pierron was born. His family comes from Albi in southwest France.

Bonnafé attended the renowned Parisian Lycée Louis-le-Grand and studied at the École polytechnique and at the École des Mines . In 1986 he accepted a position at the Ministry of Industry. In 1992 he became a member of the staff of the Minister for Foreign Trade, Bruno Durieux .

In 1993 he moved to the major bank BNP , where in 1997 he became head of the strategy and development department. After the merger with Paribas in 2000, he headed the project to integrate the two parts of the company.

In 2002 he became a member of the Executive Committee of BNP Paribas and head of the standardized retail business for France.

In the years that followed, he held several key positions for the integration of other banks acquired by BNP Paribas, such as Managing Director of the Italian bank Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (BNL) in 2008 and CEO of Fortis Bank from 2009 to 2011.

At the general meeting of BNP Paribas in May 2010, Bonnafé was elected to the Board of Directors of the BNP Paribas Group. On December 1, 2011, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas by the Board and has since headed the major bank in this role.

Honors / awards

Jean-Laurent Bonnafé has been a Knight of the Legion of Honor since 2012 . In 2018 he was awarded the European Banker of the Year 2017 .
