Jean-Paul Baudecroux

Jean Paul Baudecroux (born March 11, 1946 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , Hauts-de-Seine ) is the founder and main shareholder of the French listed broadcasting group NRJ Group . 75.5% of the shares are in his possession.

Jean Paul Baudecroux began his adventure of a free radio station in Paris in 1981 after François Mitterrand was elected as French President. At that time, he began installing his studio in a maid's room in the 20th arrondissement of Paris . He called his radio " NRJ " ( Nouvelle Radio Jeunesse ). Over time, the initials formed a play on words with the French word "Énergie" (pronounced: en-er-schi), ( German : energy). Since then, the station has become famous worldwide under NRJ and is the largest radio company in Europe with a turnover of 343.6 million euros (2010).

In Germany, the station first went on air in 1991 with Energy Berlin .
