Jean-Paul Enthoven

Jean-Paul Enthoven (born January 11, 1949 near Oran , French North Africa ) is a French intellectual , author and publicist as well as a representative of the " Nouvelle Philosophy ".

Family and education

Jean-Paul Enthoven comes from an upper-class family. In a Jewish but agnostic environment, he grew up in a republican atmosphere. His family is linked to the intellectual elite of Orange, in particular to the philosopher André Bénichou , director of the “Cours Descartes”, which a large number of French academics visited during the Algerian War.

Jean-Paul Enthoven himself received his high school education at the Lakanal boarding school in Sceaux near Paris . After attending the Lycée Buffon in the 15th arrondissement for some time , he went to the Lycée Janson-de Sailly , where he took the philosophy courses of Maurice Clavel . He finished his humanities studies with a diploma and studied politics and law in Paris in the late 1960s.

Jean-Paul Enthoven is the father of three children. One of his sons is Raphaël Enthoven .

Professional background

Since 1973, Jean-Paul Enthoven has published regularly, mainly essays with philosophical criticism and critical reflections on current science. It was through this work that he met Bernard-Henri Lévy . The departure of Oliver Todd in May 1977 enabled him to work for the left-liberal newspaper Le Nouvel Observateur . During this time Jean-Paul Enthoven interviewed important intellectuals of his time and published reflections on the political and philosophical situation. A little later, Maurice Clavel enabled him to start a television career by offering him the Nouveaux Philosophes slot on the intellectual microcosm in Paris. Bernard-Henri Lévy assisted him.

In 1983 he became head of the “Biblio-Essais” collection that Bernard-Henri Lévy had founded at Grasset Publishing. Between 1984 and 1986 he took over the management of the “Nouvel Observateur” at short notice, only to return to his old job afterwards.

In November 2007 he took part in the filming of the film Ciné Man by Yann Moix .
