Jean-Paulin Niboyet

Jean-Paulin Niboyet (born October 29, 1886 in Paris , † March 2, 1952 in Paris) was a French legal scholar in the field of private international law.

Life

Niboyet was born in Paris in 1886. He studied law in Paris from 1905 to 1912, particularly under Louis Renault , Antoine Pillet , Armand Lainé and Albert Geouffre de Lapradelle . From 1914 he fought in the French army in the First World War. In 1912 he received his doctorate in Paris. Afterwards he was first as chargé de cours at the University of Lyon ; he also spent a semester in Algiers .

In 1919 he was appointed professor of private international law at the University of Strasbourg , where he remained until 1926. There he was entrusted with the task of drafting transitional and conflict of laws for the regions of Alsace and Lorraine that had reverted to France . In 1924, together with his teacher Antoine Pillet, he published the Manuel de droit international privé, which was to remain a standard work for a long time. From 1927 to 1929 he was a professor at the University of Lille . From 1926 he was also professor of private international law at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales des Paris. From the mid-1920s, he gradually dissolved by the teachings Pillet and expanded the scope of the law of the forum further out (réalisme national). In 1929 he received a call to Paris to the chair for comparative civil law. Niboyet died in Paris in 1952. His private library has been owned by Saarland University since 1953 .

Niboyet was editor of the Revue critique de droit international, founding member and general secretary of the Comité français de droit international privé and general secretary of the Association des juristes de langue française.

His granddaughter, Marie-Laure Niboyet, is a professor in the field of private international law at the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense.
