Jean-Philippe Uzan (* 1969 ) is a French cosmologist and astrophysicist .

career

Uzan passed his Abitur ( Baccalauréat C ) in 1987 and then attended a preparatory school ( Classe préparatoire ) for three years for the entrance exams in one of the Grandes écoles of France. From 1990 he studied at the École nationale supérieure des mines in Paris (today Mines ParisTech ) specializing in geosciences . From 1993 he was at the École normal supérieure of Paris , which he graduated in 1994 with the Diplôme d'études approfondies (DEA) in theoretical physics. After his military service as a researcher at the Swedish Institute for Space Physics (IRF) in Uppsala , he worked with Nathalie Deruelle on his dissertation. The doctorate took place in 1998 at the University of Paris-Süd . He was a post-doctoral student at the University of Geneva . He then did research for the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), after his habilitation ( Habilitation à diriger des recherches ) in 2007 at the University of Paris VI (Pierre and Marie Curie) and at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris , where he since 2009 Research Director of the CNRS.

Jean-Philippe Uzan proposed the testing of alternative (higher-dimensional) theories of gravity as well as the tensor-vector-scalar-gravitation theory in cosmology and examined the variation of physical constants, the topology of the universe and non-Gaussian fluctuations and anisotropies in large-scale cosmological structures and in the background radiation (CMB).

In 2010 he received the Paul Langevin Prize . In addition to numerous publications in specialist literature, Uzan also published popular scientific works, including two children's books.
