Jean-Pierre Büchler

Jean-Pierre Büchler (born July 6, 1908 in Haller, Waldbillig ; † September 7, 1993 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourg politician of the Chrëschtlech Sozial Vollekspartei (CSV) who was a minister in various departments.

Life

The Jean-Pierre-Büchler-Bréck , a railway bridge opened in 1994 in Bonneweg, was named in his honor.

Jean-Pierre Büchler trained at the Lycée technique agricole in Ettelbrück between 1931 and 1934 and was then head of the rural economy department in the Ministry of Agriculture until 1945. After the Second World War , he became head of the pension office and then head of the study department in the Ministry of Economics. In 1948 he returned to the Ministry of Agriculture, where he was government advisor for relations with international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC).

On July 15, 1964, Büchler took over the post of State Secretary in the second Werner government in the Ministry of Agriculture and Viticulture (Secrétaire d'État à l'Agriculture et à la Viticulture) . After the formation of the third Werner government on January 3, 1967, he himself took over the office of Minister for Agriculture and Viticulture as well as Minister for Medium-Sized Enterprises (Ministre de l'Agriculture et de la Viticulture, Ministre des Classes moyennes) . From February 6, 1969 to September 19, 1972, he remained Minister for Agriculture and Viticulture in the fourth Werner government, which was subsequently formed . In addition, he held the office of Minister for Public Works (Ministre des Travaux publics) between February 6, 1969 and June 15, 1974. In the course of a new government reshuffle on September 19, 1972, he took over the office of Minister for Public Works, Minister for Families, Housing and Social Solidarity and Minister for Viticulture (Ministre des Travaux publics, Ministre de la Famille, du Logement social et de la Solidarité sociale, Ministre de la Viticulture) and held them until June 15, 1974.
