Chamber election 1974
The 1974 chamber election to determine the members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies took place on May 26, 1974.
Starting position
After the early election of the chamber in 1968 , the coalition government consisting of the CSV and LSAP was replaced by a CSV / DP coalition. Prime Minister remained Pierre Werner (CSV).
Suffrage
The seats are distributed proportionally within four constituencies using the D'Hondt procedure .
Result
Each voter had as many votes as there were elected representatives in the constituency. The results of the individual constituencies:

The CSV fell to its worst result since it was founded in 1944, while the co-ruling DP gained significantly, but remained the third strongest party. The SDP, a spin-off from the LSAP, led by former Deputy Prime Minister Henry Cravatte , moved into the Chamber for the first time .
Government formation
Prime Minister Werner resigned from office on the evening of the election after the defeat of the CSV. The new LSAP and DP coalition government took office on June 15, 1974. Gaston Thorn (DP) became the new prime minister , although the LSAP was the stronger party.
