* Share of votes taking into account the different numbers of votes per voter in the individual electoral districts

The traditional parties CSV, LSAP and DP suffered significant losses. The CSV / LSAP coalition still held two thirds of the seats. Due to the reduction of the chamber from 64 to 60 seats, the KPL lost one of its two seats despite the constant share of votes. The Action Committee 5/6 Pension for Everyone , the later ADR , won four seats straight away. The Greens, split into two parties (the left-wing CAP and the more moderate GLEI), gained two seats in total.

Government formation

The coalition of CSV and LSAP that had existed since 1984 was continued . Jacques Santer remained Prime Minister.
