The 1964 chamber election to determine the members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies took place on June 7, 1964.

Starting position

After the chamber election in 1959 , in which the DP gained significantly, the coalition government made up of CSV and LSAP was replaced by a CSV / DP coalition. The new Prime Minister was Pierre Werner (CSV).

Suffrage

The seats are distributed proportionally within four constituencies using the D'Hondt procedure .

Result

Each voter had as many votes as there were elected representatives in the constituency. The results of the individual constituencies:

The LSAP became the party with the strongest vote for the first time, but the CSV received one more seat. The DP lost heavily, while the communists gained for the first time since 1945. The party of the forced recruits of World War II ( Mouvement Indépendent Populaire ) was newly represented in the Chamber with two seats.

Government formation

The previous ruling coalition of CSV and DP only had half of the seats. CSV and LSAP agreed a coalition, Pierre Werner remained Prime Minister. The new ministers were sworn in on July 15, 1964.
