European elections in Luxembourg 1979
The European elections in Luxembourg in 1979 were the first direct election of members of the European Parliament. It took place on June 10, 1979 as part of the EU- wide European elections in 1979 . In Luxembourg , six of the 410 seats in the European Parliament were awarded using the D'Hondt procedure . The Luxembourg parliamentary election took place at the same time as the election .
Result
As expected, the ruling Christian Democratic CSV became the strongest party. She was able to secure half of the seats. The second strongest party was the liberal DP; in the European elections she received 6.2 percentage points more than in the simultaneous election to the Chamber of Deputies and was thus able to secure two seats. One mandate went to the social democratic LSAP.
