A total of 60 seats

The 2004 chamber election to determine the 60 members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies took place on June 13, 2004 at the same time as the European elections.

Starting position

In the 1999 chamber election , the governing parties CSV and LSAP (Socialists) lost two and four seats respectively, while the liberal DP lost three seats. A new coalition of CSV and DP came into being. Jean-Claude Juncker (CSV) remained Prime Minister . The Juncker-Polfer government took office on August 7, 1999.

Suffrage

The seats are distributed proportionally within four constituencies using the D'Hondt procedure .

Result

Each voter had as many votes as there were elected representatives in the constituency. The results of the individual constituencies:

The CSV won five seats, the co-ruling DP lost five seats. The Greens (+2 seats) and the LSAP (+1 seat) recorded gains, while the ADR lost two seats. Déi Lénk lost the only seat.

Government formation

After the considerable losses of the DP, the CSV changed its coalition partner and reunited with the LSAP. On July 31, 2004, the new government took office on July 31, 2004.
