The 1968 early election to determine the members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies took place on December 15, 1968.

Starting position

After the chamber election in 1964 , the coalition government was formed from the CSV and LSAP . Prime Minister remained Pierre Werner (CSV). After a government crisis, the governing parties agreed an early election on October 29, 1968.

Suffrage

The seats are distributed proportionally within four constituencies using the D'Hondt procedure .

Result

Each voter had as many votes as there were elected representatives in the constituency. The results of the individual constituencies:

Despite a slight gain in votes, the CSV lost a seat and was again the party with the highest number of votes after it was overtaken by the LSAP in terms of votes in 1964. The LSAP lost three seats while the DP gained five seats. The communists won a seat and achieved the best result they have ever achieved in Luxembourg.

Government formation

An initially planned new edition of the CSV / LSAP coalition did not materialize. Thereupon the CSV formed a coalition with the DP. The new ministers were sworn in on February 1, 1969. Prime Minister remained Pierre Werner.
