Despite a slight gain in votes, the CSV lost a seat and was again the party with the highest number of votes after it was overtaken by the LSAP in terms of votes in 1964. The LSAP lost three seats while the DP gained five seats. The communists won a seat and achieved the best result they have ever achieved in Luxembourg.
Government formation
An initially planned new edition of the CSV / LSAP coalition did not materialize. Thereupon the CSV formed a coalition with the DP. The new ministers were sworn in on February 1, 1969. Prime Minister remained Pierre Werner.
