Chamber election 1979
The 1979 chamber election to determine the members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies took place on June 10, 1979 at the same time as the first European elections.
Starting position
After the 1974 chamber election , in which the CSV suffered heavy losses and the DP gained significant gains, the LSAP formed a coalition with the DP. Gaston Thorn (DP) became the new Prime Minister .
Suffrage
The seats are distributed proportionally within four constituencies using the D'Hondt procedure .
Result
Each voter had as many votes as there were elected representatives in the constituency. The results of the individual constituencies:

The CSV was able to gain six seats, the ruling DP gained one seat despite a slight loss of votes. LSAP, SDP and KPL lost significantly. New to the chamber were the Socialistes Indépendants , a list of Jean Gremling, who had left the LSAP, and Enrôlés de Force , a party of forced recruits from World War II .
Government formation
The DP / LSAP coalition had lost its majority. A government was formed from the CSV and the DP. The new Prime Minister was Pierre Werner (CSV), who was Prime Minister from 1959 to 1974.
