After playing in the youth team of Envigado FC , Frank Fabra was promoted to the professional team for the 2010 season at the age of 18. He made his competitive debut on July 22, 2010 (1st matchday of the Finalización) in the 0-2 away defeat against Cúcuta Deportivo . After two seasons as a substitute, he made it into the starting line-up in 2012 . The left full-back scored his first goal on February 12, 2012 (3rd matchday of Apertura) in a 3-0 home win against Deportes Quindío . After 106 appearances in four seasons for Envigado, Fabra moved to league competitor Deportivo Cali in July 2014 in a six-month loan deal . Also in Cali he was firmly planned in the starting XI, which is why he was firmly committed after his loan expired. The spring of 2015 was an important part of the team that won this year's Apertura . After the loan ended, he signed a contract with Independiente Medellín for the 2015 Clausura . There, too, he adapted quickly and scored his first goal for the Paisa in the 1-0 win against Deportes Tolima on July 25, 2015 (3rd matchday of Clausura) .

After receiving numerous offers from European and South American clubs, Frank Fabra moved to the top Argentinian club Boca Juniors on January 24, 2016 for a transfer fee of 1.39 million euros . He signed a 3-1 / 2-year contract with the club from the capital Buenos Aires . He made his debut in the top Argentinian league on February 14, 2016 (2nd match day) in the 0-1 home defeat against Atlético Tucumán , in which he had to leave the field after 44 minutes of play due to injury. He scored his first competitive goal on April 21 in a Copa Libertadores group game against his former club Deportivo Cali. The full-back made his breakthrough in the starting line-up in the 2016/17 season, when he won the Argentine championship with the Xeneizes . In the next season 2017/18 he was able to successfully defend the championship title with the Boca Juniors. He scored two goals in 22 league games and prepared three more goals. Fabra missed the following season 2018/19 almost entirely due to a torn cruciate ligament. In the 2019/20 season he was once again an undisputed regular player. On November 3, 2019 (12th matchday) he scored a brace in a 5-1 home win against Arsenal de Sarandí . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the league championship ended two game days before the original end. Up until then, Fabra had scored two goals and as many assists in 18 league appearances. The Boca Juniors had already crowned themselves the Argentine champions on the last day of play.

National team

On August 28, 2015 Frank Fabra was nominated for the first time for the Colombian national team by coach José Pekerman . He finally made his debut on September 8 in a 1-1 draw in the friendly against Peru .

On the occasion of the Copa América Centenario 2016 , Fabra was appointed to Colombia's 23-man squad. In the game against Costa Rica , he scored his first goal for the national team. Colombia finished the tournament in 3rd place.

With Colombia he reached the finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia with a 4th place in qualification . In May 2018 Fabra was nominated for the World Cup squad in Colombia. However, he missed the tournament because he tore his cruciate ligament in training on June 9, 2018.

In November 2019 Fabra returned to the national team after an absence of almost a year and a half.
