Jean Wolter

Jean Wolter (born February 23, 1926 in Dudelange , † February 26, 1980 in Esch an der Alzette ) was a Luxembourg politician of the Chrëschtlech Sozial Vollekspartei (CSV).

Life

After attending school during the Second World War, Jean Wolter was drafted as an anti-aircraft helper and then to the Reich Labor Service (RAD) in Poland before he finally served in the Wehrmacht . After being a prisoner of war for six weeks in 1945, he worked as a journalist and most recently as a local editor of the daily newspaper Luxemburger Wort . In 1967 he was for the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) Member of the Chamber of Deputies (Chamber) and in 1970 a member of the municipal council of Esch-sur-Alzette. In 1974 he also took on the role of Vice President of the CSV.

In the European elections on June 10, 1979 Wolter became a Member of Parliament elected and belonged to the European Parliament in the first term , however, only one day of 17 to 18 July 1979. He resigned his mandate after joining the fifth government as Minister of the Interior and Minister for Families, Housing and Social Solidarity (Ministre de l'Intérieur, Ministre de la Famille, du Logement social et de la Solidarité sociale) on July 16, 1979 Werner had been appointed. He held these ministerial posts until his death from lung cancer on February 26, 1980, and was then replaced by Jean Spautz on March 3, 1980 .

His son is the politician Michel Wolter , who was also Interior Minister between 1995 and 2004 and chairman of the CSV from 2009 to 2014.
