Jean-Pierre Maggi

Jean-Pierre Maggi (born April 27, 1944 in Marseille ) is a French politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 2012 .

Maggi was born in Saint-Barnabé , a district of Marseille, into a working-class family and was a trained electrical engineer who first worked for smaller companies and later for Shell in Berre-l'Étang . He began his political engagement at the age of 17 and joined the Parti socialist six years later . In 1971 he became a delegate of the CFDT union . At the age of only 33, he was elected mayor of Velaux in 1977 to secure his first political post, making him the youngest mayor in the Bouches-du-Rhône department . In 1992 he also became a member of the General Council . After his re-election in 1998, he became its vice-president. In the parliamentary elections in 2012 he went into the race as deputy to Olivier Ferrand , who ran in the eighth constituency of the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Ferrand was elected but died a few days after his election. On July 1st, one day after his death, Maggi entered parliament for him.
