Capodistria district

The district of Capodistria ( Italian : capitanato distrettuale Capodistria ; Slovenian : okrajni glavarstvo Koper ; Croatian : kotarsko satničtvo Kopar ) was a political district in the margraviate of Istria . The district included areas in northern Istria. The seat of the district administration was the city of Capodistria ( Koper ).

The area was added to the Kingdom of Italy after the First World War . In 1947 it became part of Zone B of the Free Territory of Trieste , which was under Yugoslav administration. When the territory was dissolved and divided in 1954, it fell to Yugoslavia . The largely Italian-speaking population fled to Italy from 1943 to 1954. After 1954 it was annexed by Yugoslavia and has been part of the Republic of Slovenia and Croatia since 1991 .

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created around 1868 in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration. The district of Capodistria (also: Capo d 'Istria ) was created in 1868 from the judicial districts of Capodistria , Pirano and Pinguente .

In the district of Capodistria 62,149 lived in 1869, by 1910 the population had increased to 89,609 people. Of the population in 1910, 38,006 people said Italian (42.4%) was the colloquial language, 31,895 spoke Slovene (35.6%), 17,573 Croatian (19.6%) and 332 German (0.4%). The district last comprised an area of ​​824.59 km² and three judicial districts with a total of eleven municipalities.
